Discovering the monolith on the moon, from “2001: A Space Odyssey”

Here’s a piece I wrote for the Center for Science and the Imagination’s blog, the Imaginary Papers. It basically takes Arthur C. Clarke’s three laws and applies them to the real world. I think that, if as a society we look at these laws outside the context of fiction, we can really improve things and create a more science-positive environment. That way, big, crazy ideas can get the attention they deserve, and major breakthroughs in science will start happening once again, like they did in the good ol’ days.
